If you are looking for a place to sunbathe, swimming, I suggest you stay here.

1. Gran Canaria (southwest area),

Where to stay in Tenerife. Best place to stay in Tenerife.
Are you planning a vacation in Tenerife? Are you wondering where to sleep, what to see, where to go, what are the warmer beaches. If you can swim in the winter or if the sea water is cold? Is there wind in Tenerife? Where is best place for nightlife? Where to stay with children?

Perfect, today I will write an article to help you to choose the best places to take a holiday in Tenerife for everyone's need.

Best place to stay in Tenerife.
where to stay in Tenerife?

If you do not know which island to choose, it will be very useful to read these tips to avoid staying in a windy, isolated place and avoid compromising your holiday. In addition, you will find a very comprehensive list of the best Tenerife accommodations for every need. Recommendations based on my experiences and reviews from other travellers.

  1. The most popular hotels in Tenerife,
  2. Nightlife lovers (Tenerife nightlife where to go),
  3. Best place for families and children,
  4. Best place for winter holidays in Tenerife,
  5. Best place for summer holidays,
I visited Tenerife several times and my favourite place is Los Cristianos.

I love its:
  • beach (Las Vistas),
  • dry and sunny weather,
  • coastal path,
  • wide range of shops,
  • pleasantness...
Unfortunately this zone is very requested. There aren't many hotels and resorts then in the neighbouring Playa de Las Americas, and the prices are a little bit more expensive.

beaches of tenerife
Las Vistas beach

The South East part of Tenerife is ideal for holidays in winter.  Most people prefer to stay in Playa de Las Americas as it is a lively area full of shops, pubs, restaurants... others people prefer luxurious accommodations, starred resorts so prefer stay in Adeje. Costa Adeje is a city on the coast, a few miles from Los Cristianos, easily reached by bus or on foot for those who love long walks. (See a map below).

The most popular hotels in Tenerife are:

⇨  Aparthotel Columbus : Playa de las Americas
⇨  Tigotan Lovers & Friends Playa de las Américas - Adults Only:  Playa de las Americas
⇨  Gran Oasis Resort:  Playa de las Americas. Luxury hotel.
⇨  Boutique Hotel H10 Big Sur  - Adults Only - beach hotel, Los Cristianos.
⇨  Club Tenerife : Los Cristianos.
⇨  Flamingo Beach Mate : Adeje.

Tenerife: where to stay

Playa del las Americas is frequented by young people and is the centre of the Tenerife nightlife with lots of pubs and discos.
If you don't find an accommodation in Los Cristianos (it is hard to find an accommodation at short notice, especially in winter), you can move to Costa Adeje. All these cities are connected from a long coastline.

Adeje is quieter then Playa de las Americas. It is indicated for families and retired people.

El Duque beach, like most popular beaches  of Tenerife, is located in the south of the island. This beach is surrounded by luxury hotels and elite restaurants. The area is more exclusive than Las Americas. Usually there are more retirees or people looking for accommodation of a certain level. The most prestigious hotels are here.

Best place to stay in Tenerife for families and children

Tenerife is good for a holiday with children. There are equipped sandy beaches and calm sea.
The best place to stay is Adeje and Los Cristianos, more calm and relaxing then Playa de las Americas.
The hotels and residences are quieter. There are a lot of rental apartments in this area.

Best Tenerife families apartment with children:

Best place to stay in Tenerife for nightlife

Playa de las Americas IS the centre of the nightlife. Big and cheap hotels, pubs, discos...
Las Americas is very frequented by young people. They come from several part of Europe above all from UK and Ireland.

Playa de las Americas is recommended for:
  • Young people,
  • Single looking for new friends,
  • Who are looking for entertainment and nightlife,
  • Who wants to stay in the most popular area.

Best Tenerife for young and nightlife:

2. Hotel is 300 meters from the beach (playa las Vistas) with parking and wifi included. A choice of various options with breakfast, half or full board.
Rooms / Facilities also equipped for disabled guests.
3. Sol Tenerife: best position.

Best place for winter holidays in Tenerife

The south of Tenerife (Los Cristianos, Playa del las Americas and Costa Adeje) is warmer, sunniest and less windy part of the island.
The sea is calm and there are beautiful equipped sandy beaches. The most popular is Las Vistas beach (rent a beach umbrella and sunbeds is cheap. Showers and toilette are free). It is also accessible to disabled persons.

Tip: Stay here until evening to enjoy a beautiful sunset.

Los Cristianos is recommended for those who spend a holiday in Tenerife in winter because it is the hottest and sunniest area. If I went back to Tenerife I would not have doubts and I'd look for an apartment in this area.

Which is the best place for summer holidays?

I prefer in every season the southern part of Tenerife but in the summer season, the weather is good everywhere so you can visit or stay in the north of Tenerife: Santa Cruz or Puerto de la Cruz are best chooses. Puerto de la cruz has a little black beach, a beautiful historical centre, lots of shops and the famous Lake Martianez.

tenerife best area
Lago Martianez

Lake Martianez is a huge pool. It is composed by different swimming pools with salt water, volcanic rocks and palm trees overlooking the ocean. They are not heated, so I suggest you to take a bath only in the summer time.

Recommended norther area for:
  • Short stays,
  • Itinerant travellers,
  • who want to stay in a tourist area but close to smaller countries,
  • Who is not bothered by the wind.
⇨ Apartments in the center.  Adults only. Just 50 meters from Playa de San Telmo.
⇨ Sol Puerto Playa opposite the black beach of Puerto de la Cruz.

Tenerife has a wide range of activities, so it is suitable for different tastes and needs.
Enjoy in Tenerife!

Holidays in the Canary Islands in winter: Which is the warmest canary island in December? Best Canary Island to visit during Christmas & New Year 2019
Which is the hottest Canary Island? Which Canary Island has the best weather in January?

warmest canary island in winter
warmest canary island in december

Last year I stayed in December in Gran Canaria, departing before Christmas to celebrate New Year in Liguria, Italy.
There were 30 degrees in Puerto Rico area: stay in the beach was amazing!

In general, the Canary Islands have a mild climate all year but not all the 7 islands are so warm.

For those who want to spend the last day of the year in the beach, sunbathing, I would exclude, for climatic reasons, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote. Better stay in summer-spring.

Which is the Best Canary Island to visit during Christmas & New Year?

Which Canary Island has the best weather in January?

  • South of Tenerife
  • Southwest of Gran Canaria.

I'm talking about classic sea life because to visit the islands, do a tour, it's okay any season.

Spend a warm holiday in Tenerife or Gran Canaria is a great idea because, if you are European...
  1. There is no need to change money (Euro),
  2. No jet lag.
  3. Convenience: Easy to reach by frequent low cost air flights company like Ryanair. Fair prices.

The best area to spend New Year in Gran Canaria is in the southwestern countries of the island for the simple reason that, due to its geography, this area remains protected by winds. For this reason it is warmer, the sun burns, is not mitigated by the wind.

I do not say it because I have an apartment for rent in Gran Canaria: I have no reason to promote it in winter because is fully booked, the period is very required.

To try what I say is just go to sites like and see the availability of a hotel or apartment for Christmas in the Puerto Rico, Arguineguin or Playa de Amadores area, and note that there are actually less accommodation available than other part of the Island.

Here I selected the best accommodations for you to spend a New Year's Eve on the beach.

⇨  APARTHOTEL IN PUERTO RICO:  Rio Piedras. Good value for money. Ideal for winter stays, for family with children, for sea life in every season of the year.

⇨  AMADORES HOLIDAYS: spectacular views of the ocean and Tenerife. Close to the famous beach Amadores, great for autumn-winter stays. Ideal for couples. Romantic sunset. Various facilities: sauna, gym...

⇨  ADULTS ONLY APARTMENTS: Only for adults guests (no children) in Puerto Rico near the harbor.

⇨  HOLIDAY VILLAGE At Mogán Playa: Beautiful resort located in the hottest and no windy part of the island: Puerto de Mogan. Small but pretty beach surrounded by shops. A village made up of white houses with colorful flowers on the balconies. Intimate, full of restaurants, ideal for couples or for families with children.

The New Year's Eve of  Playa del Inglés and Maspalomas is a good alternative if you do not find an accommodation in the southwest area of Gran Canaria. The beach is long but often windy and colder than Puerto Rico, Amadores and Puerto de Mogan.

If you stay in Maspalomas you can get to best beaches for winter holiday by bus or car: only 10-15 km away. The beach with a large and convenient free parking is Playa de Amadores.

TO KNOW: I would point out that it is still difficult to find cheap apartments the last second in New Year's Eve because half Europe is wintering here. Italians prefer hotels but British, Norwegian, Finnish... prefer to stay in the apartments and they organize holidays with a wide advance.

Best Tenerife for nightlife and beach

⇨ 1. Cheap apartments in the center near the beach (Playa la Troya). Ideal for young people looking for nightlife.

⇨ 2. Hotel 300 meters from the beach (playa las Vistas) with parking and wifi included. Choice of options with breakfast, half or full board. Rooms / facilities also equipped for disabled guests.

Where is best to go on holiday in January?

I've been renting my house for the last three years in Gran Canaria: tourists booking my flat in advance (even 1 year in advance).
I'm always available to help my readers look for accommodation in Canary Islands, but, I noticed in the last years, it is getting harder to find something available in Tenerife and Gran Canaria in winter. I think the reason is the insecurity to travel to Egypt: another destination for winter holidays.

Best area Tenerife in winter

⇨ 1. Spacious family apartments with heated pool in Los Cristianos just a few minutes walk from the beach and the center. Maximum 6 beds. Ideal for large families or groups of friends.

⇨ 2. Residence Apartments with Pool in Los Cristianos with Parking and Wifi Included. Quiet location but close to downtown and the beach. Ideal for those who do not want to rent a car during the holiday. Sheltered and warm area in winter.

Which is the hottest Canary Island?

If you've already seen Gran Canaria, or looking for an island with more footprint in the nightlife, the southeast of Tenerife is the area for you.

Which is the Best Tenerife area during Christmas & New Year?

  1. Los Cristianos,
  2. Playa de Las Americas,
  3. Costa Adeje.

The most popular beach to sunbath and swimming is Las Vistas and the nearby playa de Los Cristianos. I advice you to stay not far from this area: see map.

Where is the best area to stay in Lanzarote? Best area to sleep, what to see, where to go, what are the most beautiful beaches, best resort in lanzarote for couples, for families, for nightlife...

Lanzarote where it is best
Best Lanzarote area
Stop here, you're in the right place. I will help you to choose the best area in Lanzarote according to your personal needs.

I often visit the Spanish islands (especially Gran Canaria where I have my holiday apartment) so I can help to planning a nice holiday in Canary islands.

Lanzarote is an island to discover and explore by car, bike or walking. The contact with nature is strong and is the ideal destination for those who want to disconnect from the city and live in the open-air. Good for recharge your batteries, see beautiful landscapes, sunbathing...

We talk about:

  1. Which part of Lanzarote is the best for... ?
  2. Where to stay in Lanzarote: recommended hotels, apartments, resort.
  3. Lanzarote Best beaches.

Lanzarote for young people/nightlife:  Puerto del Carmen or Arrecife.
Best area to visit Lanzarote up and down:  Puerto del Carmen.
Or Costa Teguise (to visit the norther area) and Playa Blanca (to visit the southern area)

⇨ Best choice to stay in Puerto del Carmen: Apartments facing Playa Grande .
⇨ The best choice to stay in Costa Teguise:  Apartments near the beach.
  1. Lanzarote for families with children. Playa Blanca.
  2. Lanzarote for those looking for the sea and the sun. Playa Blanca.
⇨ Best choice for sunbathing and beach life:  Apartments in the center of Playa Blanca.

Which part of Lanzarote is the best?

Que es la mejor zona de Lanzarote?

The island's most famous tourist cities:

  • Puerto del Carmen  in mid-island facing eastward.
  • The capital Arrecife.
  • Costa Teguise  in the north of the airport.
  • Playa Blanca:  South.
These locations are the primary choice of tourists coming to Lanzarote.
Now let's see in detail what is the best
area to stay in Lanzarote for you tastes.

Is it Puerto del Carmen?

Puerto del Carmen liken it to Playa del Ingles, Gran Canaria, because it is the "old tourist" and known area.
I went in February to Lanzarote and I stayed 3 nights in Puerto del Carmen.

  • Prices of apartments for rental holidays are competitive,
  • A long walk along the coast.
  • Wide beach.
  • A pretty old harbor area with many typical restaurants.
Choose to stay in Puerto del Carmen if you try:
  • Cheap Accommodation (South Island is more expensive)
  • You need a starting point to visit the island (the position halfway between the North and South is ideal for getting around without changing accommodation.)
  • Looking for nightlife: it is full of restaurants, pubs and shops. For "nightlife" I do not think to Ibiza style but something more soft . Although Lanzarote is not just the icon island of fun and nightlife, if you're young you should stay here.

Is it Costa Teguise?

If I went back to Lanza, I would stay here a couple of nights rather than in Puerto del Carmen as I did. The reasons are:
  • Much more comfortable for some sightseeing in the norther part of Lanzarote.
  • He gave me the feeling of being more chic than Puerto del Carmen.
Here I found many northern European retirees.
"Pueblo Marinero" is considered the center of social life in Costa Teguise full of Bars and restaurants. It is characteristic, however, as mentioned, if you're young people is best to stay in Puerto del Carmen.

    Stay in Costa Teguise why:

    1. It is a convenient location for visiting the North Island attractions.
    2. It is a tourist center that, although less of Puerto del Carmen, it has shops and restaurants.
There is also a beautiful beach in case you want to sunbathe but is a windy beach. In winter the water is freeze.
Playa de las cucharas, Lanzarote, costa teguise

    Is it Playa Blanca?

I stayed in Playa Blanca during my last days in Lanzarote holiday after visiting, up and down, the many attractions of the Norther area. I went to the south in search of relax, sunbathing and have a swim.

Unfortunately the weather was not good.

Usually, the Souther area is slightly warmer and less windy than the rest of the island but
, in my opinion, not enough to make sealife, at least in winter. For the winter season is better to go in Gran Canaria South West countries.

In Playa Blanca there are many families with children.

Choose the town of Playa Blanca if:

    • Are you looking for a relaxing holiday.
    • Want to visit Fuerteventura.
    • Looking for a place with tourist shops and restaurants.
    • Beach where you can swim.
    • Traveling with your family and children.
Where to stay in Playa Blanca?

    Is it Arrecife?

Like any capital, Arrecife town is NOT only for tourists but also to those who live and work there.
Arrecife is pretty connected to the bus station with a comfortable walk along the ocean and a park. The Reducto beach is wide, perfect for sunbathing

I visited Arrecife on several occasions always the weather was sunny but the last time I went, I was shocked: there was so much wind to create a tidal wave and the local police had to close the paseo (route overlooking the ocean) as the waves were high. A wind so strong to make it hard to breathe: I've never seen such a thing in my life.

Fortunately it was a sporadic episode. Arrecife is suitable for those on a budget: the prices here are lower than in the South. It is a good starting point to visit the north of the island and visit the museums of the city. The bus station connects all the major cities of Lanzarote.

Best place to stay in Lanzarote:

    1. Lanzarote for teenagers
    Puerto del Carmen, Arrecife.

    2. Lanzarote for families
    Playa Blanca.

    3. Lanzarote Children
    Playa Blanca.

Lanzarote is NOT the hottest Canary island in the winter season. If you looking for a warmer area stay to Los Cristianos (Tenerife) or Puerto Rico / Mogan (Gran Canaria) the  hottest areas of the Canaries in winter.

    Lanzarote capital city
    Arrecife - capital city
This is an example of an itinerary in Lanzarote based on my personal experience. It includes TOP SIGHTS in the island.

The most important tourist attractions are situated in the north, so I suggest you to stay 3 nights in the North of the island: the principal touristic village is Costa Teguise.
While for the other 4 nights you can stay in the south, in Playa Blanca, for some days of relax, where the weather is warmer, sunniest and not so windy.

Correlated post: BEST AREA TO STAY IN LANZAROTE.

    1st day

    LANZAROTE Top sights
    Jardin de Cactus
You can start with a brief visit of Costa Teguise. It is a pleasant village on the coast with lots of shops, two equipped sandy beaches and a beautiful coastal path on the ocean. Unfortunately it is very windy and the sea is rough. It has a typical center called Pueblo Marinero that is a replica of a canary village with restaurants and pubs.
You can continue the trip with the visit to the Jardin de Cactus built from Manrique, as well as the most important attractions, it preserves several hundreds variety of cactus, a windmill and a pair of ponds. It is not big and pleasant to visit.
Moving away from the coast, Teguise City, a typical canary village with white houses, a church, a nice square, some shops of souvenir and the Aloe Museum where you can know the various properties of this typical canary plant and its products. Two or three km from the city, on a hill with a beautiful view point there is an ancient castle (now is a history museum).
Famara, situated on the opposite coast of Costa Teguise is a very long and sandy beach, frequented by surfers. I take a long walk there, it was very relaxing. It is not very windy, but in case you can take cover behind some ring of stones.

The last stop of the day, the Monumento al Campesino, is a white monument of 6 mt high, built from Manrique in honor of farmer walkers. Next to the monument there is a small free museum of ancient work tools.
