Where should I stay when visiting Milan?
Milan Central Train Station
If you arrive or leave by train, you will be comfortable to look for an accommodation near the Milan train station.
Here my tip:
Hotel Ada - a short walk from the Central Station.
Booking.com Let's see together the description of the various areas that you can reach or where to stay even if many of them are not exactly economic:
-
Best area Milan for nightlife: Navigli
Stay here if you are looking for Milan nightlife, the most popular "cocktail bars" and young people. At the end of the day, on the bank of the Naviglio Grande there is a whole set of tables and chairs ready to host people to meeting for a drink, who enjoy their post-work relaxation in one of the most fascinating glimpses of the whole city. The accommodations here are mostly railing houses within courtyards.
In December you can find the Santa Claus Village and the floating ice skating rink.
👉 I recommend the Milano Navigli Apartment a stone's throw from the canals, but out of the chaos of nightlife.
- Best neighborhood in Milan for design, art and creativity: Brera
- Brera the Montmartre in Milan.
Stay in Brera for the Salone del Mobile, stay close to the Academy of Arts, visit the Brera market which takes place every third Sunday of the month.
Milan's most bohemian neighborhood of design, art and creativity is at home here in Milan. If you have an artistic soul I suggest you stay in Brera among art galleries, antique shops and clubs frequented mostly by artists.
Brera district photo is offered to TripAdvisor.
Brera is one of the nightlife districts in Milan (like Navigli, Corso Como ...) you will always find people who crowd the alleys and the clubs. A tourist area but that keeps its charm.
Pleasant atmosphere especially walking in the evening among the narrow pedestrian streets.
Stay here if you are looking for an authentic place with a romantic aftertaste.

- Milan Tortona district
Another lively area of Milan, the central hub of Milan Design Week. To see the Museum of Cultures ( Mudec ). The streets are always full so it is not strange that in this area several rooms have arisen that serve international cuisine and contribute to stir up the trendy atmosphere of Tortona.
If you plan to participate in the "Fuorisalone fair" stay here.
👉 Hotel near the Mudec
- Best neighborhood in Milan for tourists: Duomo
In the heart of the fashion capital. Stay here for Christmas Markets, Milan Film Festival, shopping.
Milan city center is offered to TripAdvisor.
Stay in the center of Milan if you want to stay close to the "La Scala" theater and go shopping: on the side of the Duomo there are numerous stores including the famous "Rinascente" (go up to the top floor you will find the food area and a bar from where it is possible to have a coffee from the panoramic terrace enjoying a beautiful view of the Duomo).
👉 Studio in Milan Center, 1.3 km from the Duomo and the Quadrilatero della Moda.
Where should I stay in Milan to see architectural buildings?
- Milan Castello Sforzesco and the cathedral of Milan: il Duomo.
In this area, right in the space in front of the entrance to the Sforzesco castle, the famous Christmas market 2019, OBej - OBej will take place! Date: 5 to 8 December 2019.
If you are looking for a place full of restaurants and bars where you can sip a cocktail at sunset overlooking Arco della Pace or towards Castello Sforzesco, you must stay in Corso Sempione: a kilometer avenue full of restaurants of all kinds and for all budgets. This area is very lively in the evening because of the pubs offering aperitifs.
The Sforzesco castle is gorgeous and well kept. Absolutely to visit (at least the outside and the inner courtyard which are freely accessible).
Council, to enjoy Milan, a walk on foot from the Duomo to here (or vice versa). Inside the castle there are various museums.
👉 Accommodation with views of Piazza Castello
- Best area to stay in Milan for shopping
CityLife Shopping District, located in the area of the former city fair is a shopping district where you can admire spectacular skyscrapers, modern buildings and a city park for those who want to take a walk in the countryside: one of the most innovative and representative neighborhoods of the revolution has affected Milan in the last decade.

- Best neighborhood in Milan for Fair and exhibitions
Stay near Fiera Milano cityBook an accommodation here, if you want or you have to attend a fair. The most famous are the festival of the East, and the BIT 2020.
Stay close to the Milan city fair (the bigger is the Rho fairgrounds) if you take part in one of the many events that take place in this exhibition space.
Fiera Milano City is easily accessible by public transport with the M5 underground line: Portello stop.
Recommended accommodation 30 meters from the metro:
👉Stay in the Fiera Milano City area
- Best areas to stay in Milan for fashion addicted
Milan's fashion district. Made up of the Via della Spiga, Via Manzoni, Via Sant'Andrea and Via Montenapoleone, the Quadrilatero della Moda. The Quadrilatero della Moda is an area dedicated to luxury shopping located in the historic city center. The famous Via Monte Napoleone is lined with high-fashion boutiques, the most famous and exclusive brands can be found here along with antique shops and elegant cafes housed in neoclassical palaces. Luxury cars parked in this street give an idea of the main customers who visit these boutiques.
👉 Hotel near Montenapoleone. This area is also perfect for shopping. You'll find brands like: Gucci, Prada, Louis Vuitton, Hermès, Ralph Lauren.
Nearby, the museum of Palazzo Morando displays period costumes, while the Bagatti Valsecchi Museum is dedicated to the decorative arts of the Renaissance period.
-
Best neighborhoods for food and restaurants: Isola
Stay here to visit the Gae Aulenti square, the vertical forest and stay near the Garibaldi FS train station.
One of the newest and most modern districts of Milan that stands near the Garibaldi FS train station adjacent to Corso Como: a lively street full of restaurants and clubs.
Isola, a science fiction district. Leaving Porta Garibaldi, the exclusive skyscrapers and buildings like those of the Bosco Verticale with balconies full of greenery are immediately visible.
A photo in Piazza Gae Aulenti surrounded by skyscrapers and fountains is a Must.
👉 Recommended apartment in the Isola neighborhood
Residential area, quite safe and perfect for reaching other areas of Milan.
-
Best zone Milan for cheaper accommodation: Città studi
A more informal climate can be found in Città studi, the area is mostly frequented by students.
Città Studi is an excellent choice for travelers interested in well organized public transport, architecture and historical centers, as well as the numerous universities that are located in the area.
